下面是我准备的问题，以及我的回答：
1. What are you going to do in the United States? (去美国干什么)
I want to pursue a Ph.D. degree at Carnegie Mellon University. My major is Industrial Administration. And my specialty is Operations Management.
2. What is your purpose for the visa?
I need an F-one visa to pursue a doctor degree in the CMU. I plan to finish my study in five years and then come back to China.
3. What is your major? Could you tell me something about it? (专业，方向)
In what aspect of your major will you study? What is your specialty?
My major is Industrial Administration with the specialty of Operations
Management.The research of OM focus on helping enterprises to build more effective operation systems, to reduce costs, improve responsiveness, and accelerate the flow of information to customers, employees, partners, and suppliers. For example, how to control the inventory level, how to select the vendor, how to make purchase plan, and how to adjust production and running mode.
4. What is your academic background?
I got the Bachelor degree in 1998, and Master degree in July 2001 in the Department of Automation in Tsinghua University.
5. Why do you like your major?
Thanks to my advisors, since 1996 I joined the research groups in this challenging area, I have about five-year research experience. And I have participated in four projects. I find great satisfaction in doing and completing these projects. These cherished experiences inspired me with great interest in Operations Management, and lay solid foundation for
the further research.
6. What’s the difference between your major now and the major in USA?
Why do you change your major?
In our department we mainly study manufacturing automation, which is included in Industrial administration in America. My specialty in the graduate study is Operations Management. In CMU, I will continue to do deep research on this field. It is an interdisciplinary field. Different University puts it in different department.
7. Why do you want to study in USA? Why not in other country?
Why not in China?
Why so many students in Tsinghua University want to study in USA?
I can get better education in America than in China. The America has the most advanced science and technology, first-class facilities and many outstanding scientists.
8. Why do you want to pursue a doctor's degree?
Since I was an undergraduate, I have had some opportunities to exercise my knowledge. These cherished experiences inspired me with great interest in this area, also let me realize what I have learned is so limited. I am eager to attend a world leading institution to furnish myself. From my perspective, the opportunity to be enrolled in CMU doctor program is a unique and invaluable one. I really want to continue to learn something.
9. Why do you want to pursue a PhD degree after you worked for a year?
Since I was pursuing the master degree, I have had the strong desire to pursue the PhD degree. But I also want to gather more practical experience before further study. During the work, I know what I chose is right. I get more familiar with enterprises’ practical operations, and have deeper understanding with my major. The desire to study gets more and more strong.
10.Have you any scholarship?
Yes. The Univ. offers me a Fellowship. This award will provide full-time tuition and annual stipend. It can cover all the necessary expense in the United States.
11.Why can you get the scholarship?
Because of my past academic achievements and outstanding potential for doctoral work at CMU. I can get more financial aid if my academic progress is satisfactory.
12.What did you do with your work for Master Degree?
Solving decision problems in Supply Chain Management, developing optimum models of vendor selection, purchase plan and the delivery decision. In these models I used the linear programming methods to solve these problems.
13.How do you know this Univ.? Why do you choose this Univ.?
CMU has a very strong research and education record, recently being ranked top three in OM. Its research areas match my interests perfectly.
14.What/where are you working now?
After graduation, I worked as software engineer in Beijing Join-network technology Development Corporation. A friend of mine introduced me to this company. We are developing application software to optimize operations management for an air transportation company.
15.Could you describe something about it?
We mainly focus on the problems, such as: How to adjust price to gain more profit? And which kinds of cargos are needed now to balance the plane’s loading? What is the optimizing loading plan? I mean, the question is which cargo should be put where in the plane. They are some aspects of my major ? operations management.
16.How about you salary?
6 thousand RMB.

How are you gonna to use your degree? (归国计划)
After graduation, I will come back to China, and find a job in a big consulting corporation, such as China International Engineering Consulting Corporation. I will mainly focus on how to optimize enterprises’operations management. With the advanced management ideas and methods, I think I can find such a position easily. I hope I can help enterprises to build more effective operation systems, to reduce costs, improve responsiveness, and accelerate the flow of information to customers, employees, partners, and suppliers. Finally I hope together with my friends we can have our own company.
18.If you cannot find such positions, what will you do?
Now the boss of our company is planning to establish a consulting corporation. I have about five-year research experience in this area and he was very satisfied with my work. He encouraged me to do deep research in America welcomes me to come back. One of my friends had set up their company. He also welcomes me to join his company.
19.Give me some reasons that you will come back to China? (为什么回国)
You can get better salary and working condition in USA, why will you come back?
Now many Chinese enterprises are searching better operation management mode.
Compared with Chinese situation, the operation management mode in American enterprises is very successful. What I will learn is urgently needed in China. If I come back with a doctoral degree getting from top university in U.S., master the advanced technology and management method about enterprise operations, I can set up my own career easily in China.
20.What will be your salary when you come back?
After I come back to China, I hope my salary would be more than one million RMB per year.Salary is not the most important thing. Operations Management is my favorite area. I would like to enjoy the successful feeling and satisfaction when I doing and completing many challenging work in China.
21.Can you explain why 90% Chinese students didn't come back?
Oh…I am not the case. As for me, the only purpose that I go to U.S is to study the knowledge. What I will learn is urgently needed in China. If I come back, I am sure I will have a much more promising future in China, so I will definitely come back. With the development of China, the government provides a lot of favorable policy to attract the oversea students, such as position, salary, research fund, research facility and so on. I believe more and more oversea students will come back.
